Morton and Flossmoor Station

Yesterday was another pretty amazing day! We decided to explore the springtime flowers at Morton Arboretum yesterday. We got a membership there quite a few years ago and always get to enjoy it quite a bit during the fall. This time, it was pretty spectacular to see it in bloom.

We first rode around looking for a glade of daffodils. We placed John in the middle to see what would happen. Part of me was a bit nervous as I'm reasonably sure he has some sort of seasonal allergies (he's had a runny nose for the two spring times he's been alive). However, he was pretty facinated by things.

Mom and Dad were pretty happy to be out on such a nice day with their little guy.

After that, convinced that the little guy was hungry, we went to the visitor's center to pick him up some milk and let him eat. He wasn't very interested in eating, but gobbled down the milk like there was no tomorrow. After a quick change, we were off again.

We ended up doing the children's garden followed by a stoll along the lake. Then, we called it a day and headed up to Geneva thinking that we'd find something to do there. We ended up strolling along the Fox river, only to have our trail end way too soon. We turned around and walked up the main street, but realized it had gotten much hotter than expected and decided to make our way out of there.

We ended our family day out with a trip to Flossmoor Station. Tim and I attended a rehearsal dinner there the weekend before, but John and I left soon after as he wasn't happy. With a happier baby and some empty stomaches,we headed back. Tim and I followed our waiter's recommendation of the calimari and the fish and chips. John had a hamburger. Us older ones had some beer while John tried their delicious root beer (the one thing I was able to sample at the rehearsal before we left).

The portion sizes were amazing. They give you four breaded fish. I think the breading was corn bread and really added a unique flavor to it. John's miniburger from the kid's menu, well, let's just say there was nothing mini about it! And the wait staff was just amazing. Our waiter was especially mindful of our needs and the fact that we had a little one with us. It is definately a place we'd return to again.

Bunny Time!

Johnny and I had an exciting day yesterday! We went to the Easter Brunch with the Bunny held at the Park District. I didn't know quite what to expect, but we ended up having a wonderful time. It started with a nice breakfast of eggs with ham, potatoes, sausage and the like. Johnny ate some, but preferred the goldfish crackers.

After that, John, ever the people person, went to most of the tables to try to chat people up, which is quite an accomplishment since he still only knows a few words. Then the big guy himself, Easter Bunny made an appearence. Johnny was both awestuck and not quite sure of the Bunny. After brunch, each kid got an opportunity to take a picture with the bunny. John did NOT want to go by himself, so this is what we got.

After that, we did an Easter Egg hunt. Those kids are like gazelles, John did not stand a chance! I got excited as I spotted a few stray eggs missed by the other kids. Maybe a little too excited, but John did quite enjoy it.

One of the little boys gave John his purple egg since he didn't have his five. It was seriously the cutest thing ever. The lady running the event gave him another egg, but had four in her hand. John tried to take all four, but ended up with just the one.

We then got to play Bunny bingo. Although I never managed to make bingo, my wonderful sister Elyse did and John ended up with a nice book and a duck.

Overall, it was a terrific and fun event for us. I would definately go again. The one thing that I hate about programming for little kids, whether it is through the park district, church or whatever, it is overwhelmingly during the work day. It is so much fun for me to have the opportunity to do things like this with my son.

However, we did another Bunny visit, mainly because I had to return something to the mall. This one didn't go quite as well.
